Denise received her degree in physiotherapy from the University of Toronto. She splits her time working in private practice and a hospital setting. Most of her career has been in orthopaedics, working with patients of all ages, following fractures, dislocations, surgeries, soft tissue strains and sprains. She also has worked with patients on general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedic and psychiatric units. Denise has a vast experience in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hips and knees and is a GLA:DTM Canada certified provider. She also has extensive experience treating patients following joint replacements. She has completed manual and manipulative physiotherapy courses in orthopaedics. Denise has also received many certificates from courses pertaining to nerve disorders, joint problems, muscle imbalances and most recently physiotherapy intervention following breast cancer reconstruction.
An assessment from Denise will involve a thorough history of your condition, education about your problem and discussion of a treatment plan. Your range of motion, strength and movement patterns will be assessed. Postural analysis, ergonomic advice, assessment of your gait, balance, and agility for a safe return to your activity or sport level will also be assessed and treated, if this pertains to your condition. A collaborative treatment plan will be devised with a specific and functional exercise program tailored to your needs. Hands on (manual therapy) techniques will be used to restore joint movement and soft tissue release. Taping and/or the use of modalities such as ultrasound or muscle stimulation may also be implemented into your treatment plan to assist you in achieving your desired goals and outcomes.
Denise continues to attend orthopaedic rounds weekly and participates in webinars and courses regularly to keep her knowledge up to date. Denise keeps herself busy with family life, reading, hiking, kayaking and snowshoeing. In the past, she was an assistant coach to her kids’ baseball teams as well as being involved in dance
