After graduating from the University of Toronto with a B.Sc. Degree in Physical Therapy in 1991, Janice began her profession at North York General Hospital. During her 20 year tenure, she worked in a variety of medical and surgical programs, primarily specializing in orthopaedics and sports medicine in the outpatient department. She treated a variety of musculoskeletal conditions including post-surgical, fractures, arthritis, total joint replacements, and sports-related injuries. Working with a team of sports medicine doctors gave her the unique learning experience of treating professional and recreational athletes.
Janice joined Striowski & Associates Physiotherapy in April 2011, where she enjoys working with skilled colleagues in an energetic and positive environment. As part of her continuing education, she has taken numerous post-graduate courses, completed orthopaedic manual therapy certifications in the Extremity/Vertebral Series, and has ongoing learning from seminars and reading articles. She uses her advanced skills to treat joint, muscle and nerve problems. Janice's treatment sessions incorporate manual (hands-on) therapy, myofascial release, use of modalities (e.g. ultrasound) or taping if indicated, stretches, strengthening and balance training. She provides individualized exercise programs tailored for each person. Janice emphasizes the importance of patient education including progressive exercises, posture/core training and injury prevention, and believes that the key to successful outcomes is patient involvement to reach mutual functional goals. She shows compassion in her care for treating the whole individual from active youth up to seniors.
Janice has a busy family life and enjoys Pilates, long walks, skating and skiing with her family. Having grown up playing piano for many years, she has a love for music and sometimes plays contemporary songs on her flute with her family "band" for church. She also performed traditional Japanese dancing for 25 years and shared this passion with her daughters.
